I found the story fascinating...young Washington intern fucks her co-workers for money, prestige and for the fuck of it! It was crazy when this story first broke last summer....but her story is now for sale...can't wait to read it!

Whitman Walker Clinic cancels AIDS Marathon Training Program!

The Whitman Walker Clinic in DC has a new director, Donald Blanchon, who has decided to cancel the contract with the National AIDS Marathon Training Program (NAMTP) this year, saying the cost of fundraising is too high. So, the current Miami run will be the last AIDS Marathon Training Program in Washington. The NAMTP office in DC is closing next month -- The coaches have been let go, program reps John Beach and Beth O’Brien are being transferred to their Chicago office, and Cal Gilbert is being transferred to their San Francisco office. Unlike DC’s Whitman Walker Clinic, the organizations in Chicago, LA, and SF are still happy to receive money from NMATP.

This is an idiotic and shortsighted decision by the new director of Whitman Walker, since the clinic nets significantly over $1 million every year from the AIDS Marathon Training Program. Moreover, the AIDS Marathon Training Program raises significant awareness for AIDS and the WWC’s mission, with thousands of alumni and donors over the past 9 years, in addition to providing a health-related activity for those of us in the community who are able to run with the program.

This new director and the board of Whitman Walker need to hear from the community that this is shortsighted and unacceptable. I personally have given many, many thousands of dollars to the Whitman Walker Clinic over the past 15 years, but will never give them another dime if they can’t manage their money well enough to take advantage of an amazingly successful fundraising program like NMATP. The problem is cash-flow management, but fixing short-term cash-flow mismanagement shouldn’t make them reject the clinic’s largest donor…

Note that in 9 years of operation, NAMTP has raised $25 million for the clinic, at a cost of $11 million, netting the clinic $14 million over the past 9 years. That’s roughly 44% overhead, which is really excellent for a non-profit fundraiser (for comparison, note that the now defunct AIDS Ride organization had 98% percent overhead…). Put another way, the clinic invests money in a program with a 9-year track record, and the clinic doubles its money in 6 months. Why would anyone turn down a million dollars and a ton of publicity each year?
